Bring your friends and celebrate Pride with the Light Leaks East Coast community at Diva Behavior! Hosted by the fierce Miel Melendez - we're taking over Starr Bar in Williamsburg, Brooklyn from 5 - 8 PM THIS SUNDAY JUNE 23rd for an unforgettable night of fun, music, and connection!

Come to celebrate your authentic self and meet new creatives! Let's sing, laugh, and make memories together as we embrace Pride month and the power of our creative community. All are welcome and don’t worry, karaoke is optional!

The Opportunity to Prep For  πŸŽ₯ LA-based directors with a short film: get ready!

We're joining our friends the Reel Champs in programming a one-day film festival at Gardena Theatre in September. We'll be able to program 1 female, nonbinary, or gender nonconforming director's completed short film AND they will also be part of a live Q&A at the beautiful theatre.

We'll be opening up submissions specifically for this opportunity, but here's details to keep in mind:

  1. The film's director must be female-identifying or non-binary.

  2. The film's director must be available to attend the event in person to participate in the Q&A after the screening on September 14th, 2024

  3. The film must be shorter than 20 minutes.

We'll send out a form to submit for this opportunity but make sure you're also following us on Instagram for the latest!

The Women in Film Stat to Know  Male directors accounted for 85.3% of US films in 2023 while women accounted for only 14.7%.

This stat is more or less the same as 2022 which had 14.4% women directors. Here's why this matters:

  1. Diverse voices in film create richer, more relatable stories that reflect the true diversity of our society. Ensuring creatives are equally represented behind the camera helps bring a wider range of experiences and perspectives to the screen!

  2. Economic Impact! Gender diversity in direction can lead to more innovative storytelling and broader audience appeal, which can translate to greater box office success and economic growth for the industry.

  3. Cultural Impact: Women and nonbinary directors bring fresh perspectives that challenge existing stereotypes and broaden societal understanding. Their unique viewpoints can lead to films that push cultural boundaries and foster greater empathy.

Share this fact and why it matters to inspire others and advocate for greater inclusivity in the film industry!
