🎬 The Light Leaks: April Newsletter 🎬

Hello and happy April!

We know it's been a while since we've emailed, but we're back and will be returning every month. So buckle in because we're thrilled to share exciting updates and events with you.

Why 2024 Matters to UsThe Light Leaks began as a passion project in queer Latina filmmaker's college dorm room seven years ago. Since then, it has evolved into a powerful community resource for women and gender non-conforming filmmakers. As of December 2023, our founder, Kim Hoyos has shifted her focus to The Light Leaks full-time, allowing us to dedicate more attention and direction to our growing community. We're proud to be an independent business fueled by our passion for inclusivity and support for underrepresented voices. This year, we're striving to transition our team from unpaid to compensated roles as we continue to expand our resources!

What's New?In 2024, we're introducing even more ways to support and empower our creative community. From free digital monthly events to expanded workshops and the launch of our podcast, we're committed to providing valuable opportunities for growth and connection. Expect to see more downloadable resources on our online store, different events, consulting calls with Kim, and enhancements to our Patreon. As we evolve, our website and design direction will reflect our mission of amplifying women and gender non-conforming filmmakers!

The Light Leaks Collaborations

This is the second of a series we shot for them. We’re so grateful for the opportunity to have this business and community amplified in this way. These videos will hopefully reach more people who can learn about The Light Leaks and the resources we offer filmmakers on their journey.

Alongside The Reel Champs, Not Your Daddy Films, the Light Leaks cosponsored American Cinematheque’s Women Wednesday programming in Los Angeles, CA for women’s history month. The programming featured four weeks of debut films by female directors and concluded with our founder, Kim Hoyos interviewing director Ally Pankiw on her film “I Used to Be Funny”.
