From the premiere of HBO’s Insecure in 2006, Issa Rae made it a point to showcase her version of South Los Angeles. As the series soon comes to the close, there are so many ways Issa and the Insecure team created a visual ode to the city and celebrated their LA roots. From The Dunes apartments to Issa’s fictional The Blocc company, it was a way to showcase their LA reality and LA dreams!
The first woman director ever nominated for an Oscar, Italian filmmaker Lina Wertmüller has passed. We will remember her for her passion for covering social and political topics in her film and as for her 1975 film Seven Beauties which made history for her directorial nom.
Did you hear? A study by Variety Business Intelligence found that during the pandemic Black and Nonbinary actors have had the highest onscreen representation increase across film and TV. There’s work to be done, but let’s celebrate this gain 🎉🎉
