Welcome back to another edition of The Light Leaks’ newsletter! We're buzzing with excitement as we prep for an action-packed summer. We're launching a brand-new podcast series (spoiler: it's an insider's peek into the industry!), dropping fresh episodes of your favorite feminist film fact series, Film Nerd Moment, and also taking submissions for a film festival in LA this fall!Be sure to add us as a contact in your email so these emails don't go to spam and consider sharing our newsletters with your friends.

Seeking Short Films from LA Based Women and Nonbinary Filmmakers
Exciting news! We're teaming up with The Reel Champs (TRC) for their Short Film Festival to celebrate diverse voices in filmmaking at the iconic Gardena Cinema—a historic minority and woman-owned theater that's been a community treasure for over 70 years. TRC Shorts Fest will feature an afternoon of exceptional short films all directed by women and nonbinary filmmakers, engaging Q&A sessions, and opportunities to connect with talented filmmakers from diverse backgrounds.The Light Leaks will select one (1) short film under 20 mins to screen during this festival block from the submissions received through this form.
Submission Details:
Submission Period: June 29th - July 19th
Criteria: Directed by female-identifying, gender nonconforming, or non-binary individuals. Films should not exceed 20 minutes (including credits).
Event Date: September 14th – Director's attendance for Q&A required.
This event is a powerful collaboration between The Reel Champs, Middle Men, Not Your Daddy’s, ULSC, and The Light Leaks, organizations all committed to inclusion and diversity in filmmaking.

Great sound and music can transform a good film into a great one. Sundance Collab is hosting a Dolby Sound and Music challenge to see how you can tell the story with innovative sound/ music design. Winners will gain access to Sundance Collab courses and have their work featured on the Collab site! All participants will choose one of the three provided scenes from the three-time Independent Spirit Award–nominated film Chronicles of a Wandering Saint - submissions available until July 15th.
