Hello and welcome to the Light Leaks newsletter!

As we ease into June, it's incredible to look back on what we’ve accomplished together. In the past year, we've seen incredible growth in our community and have achieved milestones that wouldn't have been possible without every one of you. Through our mission to educate, empower, and inspire female, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming filmmakers, we aim to create a more inclusive and equitable industry for all to thrive in. 

From premiering our video series, Film Nerd Moment, to being featured by Facebook, hosting 3 in-person events in LA, collaborating with 2 major film festivals, and hosting 7 digital events, this year has continued to get better with each month.

Los Angeles Latino Internation Film Festival Recap: At LALIFF this year, The Light Leaks had an incredible experience supporting the Youth Cinema Project (YCP) Fellows as they showcased their short film, “Lost Memories.” Moderated by our founder, Kim Hoyos, the event celebrated the talents of Latinx youth in filmmaking and highlighted the importance of diversity in the industry. Tribeca Film Fest - June 12 - Free Panel (NYC)

We're excited to announce that our founder Kim Hoyos will be moderating the panel "More to Talk About: Shifting the Culture for Rising Voices" at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival. Hosted by social impact platform, More To Talk About in collaboration with Indeed, this will be a conversation with the Founders of 271 Films and Mexican sisters Constanza and Doménica Castro on the value of independent producers, creating sustainable pathways of opportunity for emerging voices, and the future of latine/x narratives.
